
Rachel Keller is a fictional character from The Ring film series. The character was developed by producer and writer Ehren Kruger and played by Naomi Watts, serves as the main character in The Ring and The Ring Two that share similarities with Reiko Asakawa from the earlier Japanese films.Introduced in the 2002 film, Rachel is an investigative journalist, who must find how to avoid death after having watched a cursed video tape that she discovered during her investigation into the death of her niece. Rachel has to look into the past of Samara Morgan the son of her in The Ring Two. Ruth Rachel's sister is adamant Rachel to inquire into the mysterious circumstances that led to Katie's sudden death. She tells Rachel that she found her daughter's disfigured corpse in the closet. She also informs Rachel the reason for her death was due to a heart attack in spite of Katie being a healthy teenager. Katie's friends tell Rachel about the legend behind the tape with the curse and the story of Katie's friend Becca was taken to an institution after Katie's tragic death. Katie's boyfriend as well as her two friends also died in strange accidents the night before at 10 at night. Rachel journeys to Shelter Mountain Inn to Cabin 12 where Katie and her friends watched the videotape that was cursed. Rachel finds the tape and plays it. The phone rings. Rachel hears a voice utter "seven days". Rachel is referred to Noah Clay as a video analyst by her ex-boyfriend. Rachel learns later that Aidan (her son with Noah) was watching the tape and said that he believed what she said. Rachel is able to discover the location of the lighthouse. It was located on Moesko Island. Anna Morgan is a cursed horse breeder appeared on the tape. After further investigation, Rachel discovers Anna had an adopted daughter named Samara who was possessed of the ability to create disturbing images into the minds of humans, animals and objects. Rachel has to go to Anna's widower Richard after she starts asking questions regarding Samara.
